Hometown: Ethnically Indian, but born in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates
Outside interests/activities:
Dancing, volleyball, reading and anything to do with music. I volunteer at the VU Medical Center. I’m a member of the Graduate Student Council Board, Sigma Xi, Society of Women Engineers, American Vacuum Society and American Chemical Society.
Why Vanderbilt?
What attracted me the most was the fact that all the professional schools and graduate schools are on the same campus. This meant opportunities to learn more than what is applicable to my major, and involvement in multiple collaborative research initiatives. Interdisciplinary work is big at Vanderbilt. In fact, because of Vanderbilt’s focus and the help of my advisor, I was able to be a Visiting Fellow for eight months at SRI International in Menlo Park, Calif., where I got to work with a number of leading senior research scientists.
Likes best about Vanderbilt Engineering:
As a graduate student, we are most concerned about novel (lucrative) research efforts underway, the availability of resources and grants, and the enthusiasm of the faculty. I think you can see evidence of all this within Vanderbilt Engineering.
Likes best about Vanderbilt Chemical Engineering:
The department is small so you are not just a number. You get to know faculty and students well, and vice versa. This provides avenues for spirited debates, idea formation and the much needed occasional distraction from research! All in all, I feel like I am part of a team where everybody roots for each other!
Likes best about Nashville:
The kindness of the people, the exposure to different genres of music, ethnically diverse restaurants.
What do you expect to do after graduation?
Take a vacation! Jokes aside, I will begin my professional career as a process engineer at Intel Corporation.
